Access Statement.

 

This document is prepared by the owners of Funchal Ridge, directly in response to the requirements laid down by the VisitBritain Quality Assurance Scheme.

We are personally committed to offering excellent facilities maintained to high standards. Our spacious property has been has been designed for those who have restricted walking ability and therefore need a wheelchair some of the time, however we have comfortably accommodated a wheelchair dependent quadriplegic. The key issue restricting us from achieving the higher mobility rate is that a couple of turning circles are not as large as required for the standard.

 

PRE ARRIVAL


Our website tregooselet.co.uk has been designed and maintained to offer comprehensive information and encourages prospective guests to contact us to discuss their specific needs. We have a good working relationship with a local mobility aid hire company and often discuss specific requirements with them prior to accepting a booking. This allows us to reassure guests that their stay will be a comfortable one and give an early indication of any additional costs from the equipment hire.

 

We do not offer facilities for font enlargement, nor for colour change, neither are we able to offer information in Braille.

 

Before arrival of a guest we offer:-


A welcome pack, with tea coffee, milk, sugar etc
A comprehensive folder of places to see and things to do
We take delivery of any additionally hired aids and are trained in their operation.


We ensure that whatever of our own additional aids, ramps, shower chairs etc are installed or prepared for installation as previously discussed with the guests.


With their initial enquiry re our facilities we send out brochures regarding the employment of carers whilst on holiday, equipment hire, sandchair hire and accessible taxi firms.
We will also research specifics upon request and supply relevant details

 

ARRIVAL AND CAR PARKING
Funchal Ridge offers off road courtyard parking with good all round access. The pathways from the parking area are of calcarda which is a portugese cobblestone.

In the hours of poor light, i,e, between dusk and dawn there are sensor lights installed in both the courtyard and to the front of the property.

There is no porterage offered to and from cars however we do personally welcome all our clients on arrival and that extends to generally assisting where required. We live above the apartments and are available for any help required.

 

SURFACES
Throughout the property there are various surfaces of stone and ceramic tiles


ENTRANCE TO THE APARTMENTS
The calcarda patheway extends along the full length of the property and is bordered by planted flower beds and is illuminated dusk to dawn by sensor lights. Entrance to the apartments is via sliding patio doors which have temporary aluminium ramps installed.

 

ENTRANCE WAY
Ceramic tiled floor leading to dining room 90 degree turn to right) or double bedroom (90 degree turn to left). Straight ahead is lounge area.

 

DINING ROOM
Tiled floor. A spacious room with large dining table and log fire. Plenty of space for wheelchair users to sit to the table.

 

WETROOM
Access is off of the lounge. Tiled floor with large door opening. Sink with lever taps and rails to the side. Toilet with pull down rails available either side, access from left or right. Large shower, with no tray, allowing easy access. Various heights of shower head. Emergency pull alarm. A commode chair is available upon request for use in the shower. Wheeled carousel for storage of toiletries.

 

GROUND FLOOR DOUBLE BEDROOM
Access from the lounge. Tiled flooring. Double head and toe tilt electric bed. Bedside cupboards at both sides. Wheelchair height dressing table.

 

GROUND FLOOR TWIN BEDROOMS
Access from the lounge. Tiled flooring, 2 Single beds, bed side tables.


KITCHEN
Ceramic floor. Work surfaces at standard height. Dishwasher, washer drier, large fridge freezer, fan oven, gas hob, microwave. Fully provided with an extensive range of pans, cooking utensils and crockery.

 

LOUNGE
Tiled flooring. Access from the lounge through doorway to swimming pool, access from lounge conservatory to games room and raised patio.
The lounge has three, three seater sofas and two arm chairs as well as an electrically operated rise and recline chair. (Offering comfort for all needs).


GAMES ROOM
Accessed from the kitchen. Tiled flooring, Pool table, darts and childrens darts.

 

SWIMMING POOL
Accessed from the lounge. Ramped pathways ceramic floor, 90 degree turn into pool area.

Access to the pool is by means of three steps (about 45cm / 18 inches each) or for the disabled an Oxford Dipper pool hoist. The depth or the shallow pool area is 1.5m deep and 1.9 metres at the deep end..

The pool is maintained daily and is treated with chlorine.

There is ample seating provided on the raised patio with tables, and a barbecue is available.

The owners always meets guests at the airport, and familiarise the guests with operation of facilities and to assist as necessary. We are also always available 24 / 7 to deal with any issues or advice.
